Engineering Council Leads Probe into Partial Slab Collapse at Ayawaso West Site
Date: 2025-10-29

The Engineering Council, in collaboration with the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, has confirmed that a construction incident occurred on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at “The Address” project site in Roman Ridge.

Contrary to initial reports, the incident did not involve the collapse of a 10-storey building. Instead, a section of the first-floor podium concrete slab, which was being cast, gave way at around 12:15 pm.

Fourteen workers sustained injuries and were quickly taken to the 37 Military Hospital and Ridge Hospital. As of Wednesday morning, October 29, twelve have been treated and discharged, while two remain in stable condition under observation.

In response, a seven-member investigative committee has been formed. It includes experts from the Engineering Council, Architects Registration Council, NADMO, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly. The committee is tasked with determining the root cause of the failure and recommending measures to prevent future occurrences.

All work on the site has been suspended pending the investigation’s outcome. The committee is expected to issue a public report upon completion of its work.
