The Engineering Council has inaugurated six Technical Committees to operationalize its mandate under the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (Act 819), marking a major step in strengthening oversight of the profession. The ceremony took place on Friday, 22 August 2025 at the Engineer’s Center, Roman Ridge, Accra.

In a welcome address, the Registrar, Ing. Isaac Bedu, described the inauguration as an important milestone for the Fourth Governing Board, stressing that the committees are the mechanism through which the Council’s regulatory mandate becomes “operational and effective.”

The committees are Disciplinary, Legal and Ethics; Education and Training; Finance and Administration; Licensing and Registration; Public and International Affairs; and Standards and Professional Practice.

Delivering the keynote address, the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei described the establishment of the committees as a matter of “strategic national interest,” adding that Ghana’s safety and public investment in infrastructure depend on the uncompromising quality and integrity of engineering practitioners.

He underscored government’s expectations of zero tolerance for substandard materials, unlicensed practice, and poor supervision of engineering works, urging the committees to serve as the technical backbone to translate the Council’s strategic direction into practice.

The Council expects the committees to drive its core functions, including oversight of professional practice, support for education and training, licensing and registration of practitioners and firms, ethical conduct, and adherence to local and international standards.
