Engr. Professor Mike Agbesi Acheampong, a distinguished Professor of Environmental Chemical Engineering, has made notable contributions to the field. His expertise in blended teaching and learning, as well as Technical, Vocational, Education and Training (TVET), has been vital in shaping the next generation of engineers and technologists. Since August 2019, he has held the position of Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) in Ghana, where he was the first to attain this esteemed role. His research on metallurgical wastewater treatment using sorption technology has made a significant impact on the field. He is also a consultant in chemical product development, plant design, pollution prevention, and control systems.

At the tertiary education level, Engr. Professor Acheampong earned his BSc. (Chemical Engineering) and MSc. (Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation) degrees from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, in 1996 and 2005, respectively. In October 2013, he obtained a joint PhD from the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education and Wageningen University, The Netherlands.

Engr. Professor Acheampong’s leadership journey in higher education exemplifies his capabilities. He served as the former Pro Vice-Chancellor of KsTU from 2 September 2019 to 31 August 2022. His tenure was characterised by significant advancements in the university’s academic and research programmes. He also held roles as Interim Vice-Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and Head of the Chemical Engineering department at KsTU, further demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence and innovation. Additionally, he is an adjunct professor at the Regional Maritime University in Accra, Ghana, and at the University of Environmental and Sustainable Development, Somanya, Ghana.

Engr. Professor Acheampong’s teaching career spans more than 20 years. He is an astute researcher and scholar of international repute. His research and scholarly work mainly focus on chemical and environmental engineering disciplines. He has participated in over sixty-five (65) workshops, seminars, and training sessions both locally and internationally. He organised ten (10) conferences and training seminars. Since 2009, he has published over fifty (50) scholarly papers and has received more than nine (9) research grants and scholarships.

Professionally, Engr. Professor Acheampong is a board member of the Engineering Council, Chairman of the Engineering Council Education and Training Committee, a Fellow and Council Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH). He is the 2nd Vice President of IET-GH. Additionally, he serves as the Chairman of the IET-GH Education and Training and Welfare Committees. He is also the Chairman of the Chemical, Environmental and Petroleum Engineering Technical Division of IET-GH.

Engr. Prof. Mike Agbesi Acheampong is married to Rita Delali Acheampong and has three lovely children: Manuella, Mike Jnr, and Philbert.
